  Third Grade

Dear Parents and Students,

This has been a great school year.  Many thanks to you, who have sent your child to HTCS.  Your support this year has helped me in immeasurable ways.  I have enjoyed working with your children and hope to see you all again next year.  This will be our last full week of school.  Next week we will just meet on Monday and Tuesday for a full day and a half day on Wednesday.  Please join us on May 26 for Mass and awards ceremony.

I saw a great improvement in most of the children’s division skills this week.  Some children have already begun summer break and quit doing homework.  Please check that your child does math homework each night.  I usually give them time in class to begin the assignment.  Those who did poorly on division were the same children who did not do homework consistently.  This is a new skill and requires practice.  The fact test this week will be on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  The lessons test will be on all of Chapter 11.  This will include multiplication and division of higher numbers.  I am very proud of how hard both classes have worked this year.

In Social Studies we will finish the book with a combined Chapter 9 and 10 test this Thursday, May 20.  In Chapter 9 we have studied nonprofit organizations and the importance of being good citizens.  In Chapter 10 we will study map skills with a review of continents, hemispheres, longitude and latitude lines, the equator and prime meridian.

In Religion, we will test on Chapter 26, this is the last chapter we will cover in this book.  We have covered all except one.  The test will be on Wednesday, May 19.
